Young Carers

Bright Horizons

Spalding High School is proud to support the young carers who attend this school. A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled, has a mental health difficulty or misuses drugs or alcohol. One in twelve children is likely to be a young carer at some point before they turn 18.

This help and support might include some extra chores at home, helping with siblings, keeping an eye on those around them to make sure they are ok. Young carers might help to support adults who have difficulties with their mental health by encouraging them and showing compassion and empathy. They may help someone with their medication or if someone needs help with getting washed or dressed.' Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Davies within the pastoral team are here to give students extra support if they fall in to the young carers category. A club called 'Bright Horizons' is also being set up that will bring together young carers to allow them to have some fun, meet other students in similar situations and gain the extra support that they need. More information can be found on the Bulletin and on posters around school. More information from the Early Help Team can be found within this page too.
